Commissioner Margrethe Vestager (Competition) takes Spotify's complaint about Apple's monopoly position seriously. Vestager said that on Thursday at a conference in Berlin.

Earlier this week, Spotify complained to the European Commission about Apple, because the music streaming service thinks the company makes fair competition impossible.

Spotify pays Apple 30 percent commission on income via the App Store. The streaming service must therefore make its paid subscription more expensive to get the same income from it. In this way, Spotify is unable to compete with the Apple Music music service.

Vestager and her team take Spotify's complaint "very seriously" and will take a good look at Apple's position as a platform holder. According to Vestager, however, it is too early to draw conclusions.

The Euro commissioner had previously imposed a fine of 4.34 billion euros on Google for abusing his market position. That is the highest fine ever paid by Brussels.
