Slovenia's Ilka Stuhec successfully defended her world title in downhill skiing. In Åre, Sweden, she won the race on a shortened course in 1: 01.75 minutes, second was the Swiss Corinne Suter (+0.23 seconds). The bronze medal went to ski star Lindsey Vonn (+0.49). For the American, it was the last race of her career.

The German riders had nothing to do with the medal places: Viktoria Rebensburg achieved the best result with eleventh place, ahead of Michaela Wenig (twelfth place), Kira Weidle (13) and Meike Pfister (27). The Austrian Stephanie Venier narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. Co-favorite Ramona Siebenhofer, who won the combined descent in Åre, finished seventh.

Vonn was one of the best athletes in the history of alpine skiing. The 34-year-old American has celebrated 82 World Cup victories in her career, winning three medals at the Olympics and now eight at the World Championships. "This is the best finish for my career," said Vonn after the race on the ARD.

Because of the weather conditions, the distance was shortened by 556 meters. The World Champion was therefore determined at 1670 meters. The men's downhill on Saturday had also taken place on a shortened route.
