The German ski jumper Karl Geiger won the competition in Engelberg in Switzerland. With a distance of 135 meters he was after the first round in fifth place, the daily distance of 141 meters in the second round brought him his first World Cup victory. Pole Piotr Zyla finished second, Daniel Huber from Austria finished third.

Four out of seven German starters retired on the Gross-Titlis-Schanze already in the first round. The second-best German was Stephan Leyhe, who was still third after the first round. Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger disappointed with a 14th place. For the German Springer the success of Geiger was the first in the calendar year 2018.

Geiger has participated in the World Cup since 2012. Before the success in Engelberg, he had even made it to the podium in singles jumping. In February 2016 he finished second in Lahti. He was more successful with the German team, with whom he won the silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
