The six-time ski jumping world champion Gregor Schlierenzauer puts on a disappointing results after a World Cup break. The 28-year-old Austrian will instead use his time only for training sessions, at least until the Four Hills Tournament. "It will be challenging because there are a few things I will be working on and I accept this challenge," said Schlierenzauer, who is still a record holder with 53 World Cup victories.

Schlierenzauer has only reached the second round in one of the five individual competitions of the season so far. "We decided together with him that Gregor will make a World Cup break until the tour ends," said head coach Andreas Felder. "That's a lot of head thing and for that he needs the necessary rest away from the World Cup."

Schlierenzauer will miss the dress rehearsal in Engelberg, Switzerland (15-16 December). The competitions this weekend in Titisee-Neustadt had to be canceled anyway because of the bad weather conditions.

Schlierenzauer celebrated his last World Cup victory four years ago in Lillehammer. In the following season 2015/2016 he took because of mental fatigue ever a time-out from the World Cup before he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in March 2016 and had to pause for ten months.
