The World Cup final of skateboarders in Rio de Janeiro was overshadowed by a fatal accident. On the descent on the winding asphalt in the Tijuca City Forest, 18-year-old Brazilian Allyson Pastrana was in full speed heading head-on for an oncoming motorcycle of the organization. He died shortly afterwards of his injuries. The downhill skateboarders reach speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour on the track.

Three more athletes crashed in the accident, but suffered only minor injuries. The event was canceled after the accident. Pastrana had been admitted after three national championships in the youth classes only this year as a professional.
