Egypt's striker Mohamed Salah has been crowned African Player of the Year for the second time in a row. The majority of the coaches and technical directors of the 56 member states of the African football association CAF voted for the striker of Liverpool FC. Behind the 26-year-old, his Senegalese team-mate Sadio Mané and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Gabon (Arsenal FC) landed. Thus, the identical trio of the previous year stood for election.

Bundesliga pro Achraf Hakimi of Borussia Dortmund was voted Africa's youngest player of the year at the gala in Senegal's capital Dakar. The 20-year-old Moroccan is currently on loan from Real Madrid to BVB. Morocco coach Hervé Renard was named best coach of the year. He had participated with the country in the World Cup in Russia, but was already eliminated in the group stage.
