The British cycling team Sky for Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas has to look for a new owner and main sponsor. Media company Sky announced it would end its "highly successful partnership" after the 2019 season. The cooperation with the British Cycling Federation will not continue.

The team will go under another name also in the 2020 season at the start when a new donor is found. This should prove to be a difficult undertaking, the many successes of the expensive team are bought at a high price. With an estimated annual budget of around 34 million euros, Sky is by far the most financially strong team.

Sky has been involved in cycling since 2008, starting with a cooperation with British Cycling. Team Sky was founded in February 2009 and has since led three British riders to the Tour triumph: Sir Bradley Wiggins (2012), Chris Froome (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017) and most recently Thomas (2018). However, the team has been repeatedly under pressure for doping allegations against Wiggins and Froome in the past.
