Former world boxing champion Markus Beyer died on Monday at the age of 47. On behalf of the family the MDR announced that Beyer died after a short and severe illness in a Berlin hospital.

Beyer celebrated his biggest success as a super middleweight pro. Under coach Ulli Wegner he was in 1999 after a victory over the British Richie Woodhall first world champion. Beyer won in his career a total of three times the world title of the association WBC. Beyer played his last boxing match in 2008.
