The time as coach of the French first division AS Monaco is probably over for Thierry Henry again. The club confirmed in an official statement that the former striker star was suspended with immediate effect. Henry's former assistant Franck Passi takes over the training for the time being.

A final decision on Henry's future has not yet fallen, but a return of the 41-year-old on the coaching post seems impossible. Monaco was Henry's first head coach, having previously served as assistant to Belgian national coach Roberto Martínez for two years and celebrated third place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

In October 2018, Henry was introduced to Monaco as successor to Leonardo Jardim. Under Jardim, AS won the French championship in 2017 ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and reached the Champions League semi-final. Monaco is threatened by relegation this season. After 21 games, the team is on the penultimate place in the table. Of 20 competitive games under Henry, AS has won only four (five draws and eleven defeats).

As a player, Henry had celebrated his first big success in Monaco. In 1997 he became AS Champion. This was followed by national titles in England (2002 and 2004 with Arsenal) and Spain (2009 and 2010 with FC Barcelona) and winning the 2009 Champions League with Barça. In addition, Henry belonged to the French national team, the 1998 World and two years later European champion. In 2014 he ended his active career.
