Liberty Media, the company that owns Formula One, is finalizing the purchase of the Spanish Dorna Sports, owner of MotoGP, for

more than 4 billion euros

, the British newspaper 'Financial Times' (FT) revealed this Wednesday.

According to sources close to the negotiations cited by the media, Liberty, chaired by telecommunications and entertainment magnate

John Malone

, would acquire Dorna after discarding another offer from the TKO group, headed by the super-agent of Hollywood stars Ari Emanuel.

Qatar Sports Investments

, owner of Paris Saint-Germain, had also expressed its interest in Dorna and had held talks with the British investment fund Bridgepoint, owner of the company that organizes the World Motorcycle Championship or the Superbike championship.

Despite everything, the FT recalls that for the agreement to come to fruition it would have to first face approval by the regulatory authorities, since the

CVC investment fund had already had to get rid of the motorcycles in 2006

to be able to buy Formula One, which it in turn sold. to Liberty in 2017.

Bridgepoint and the Canadian Pension Fund (CPPIB) are the main shareholders of Dorna, also owned by its CEO,

Carmelo Ezpeleta

.

According to the newspaper, Liberty's offer would value Dorna at more than 4 billion euros, including its debt, and although the agreement seems close, its announcement could be delayed until next week.
