He is penalized for a nasty elbow tackle to the head of New York Islanders guard Adam Pelech in the Jan. 25 game.

Pelech was on his way out of his own zone when he passed the puck away. Then Gallagher came at full speed from the other side and hit Pelech with an elbow to the head.

Gallagher received a match penalty and Pelech had to be taken off the ice.

The Montreal forward's actions received harsh criticism within the NHL sphere, including from PK Subban, now a TV expert and former teammate of Gallagher.

- That is inexcusable. "I don't want to see these kinds of tackles and the disciplinary committee has to step up here," Subban said.

Now the disciplinary board has stepped forward.

Gallagher is suspended for five games and will also be fined $170,000, approximately SEK 1.7 million.
