Watch Hasek before the NHL game in the player above.

Since the war in Ukraine broke out, Dominik Hasek has been a strong opponent of Russians being allowed to play in the NHL.

- Every time I watch the NHL, I see dead people and lost lives, he previously told SVT Sport.

That's why it stood out when he was at the opening ceremony when his former club the Buffalo Sabers met the Chicago Blackhawks.

He now regrets it himself.

"I consider my participation in the match to be a big mistake.

I hereby apologize to all Ukrainian soldiers and the Ukrainian people who heroically defend not only their homeland but all of Europe against the imperialist enemy," he writes on X and continues:

"At this moment, I can promise that a similar situation will not happen again.

And I will fight to the hilt to defend anything that the Russian state-controlled terrorist regime attacks.”
