Nick Dunlap has amateur status and actually attends the University of Alabama but was given a free slot for the competition played in California this weekend.

Once there, he did everything right, especially during the third round when he went 60 strokes, the best result ever by an amateur on the PGA Tour.

In the final round he went 70 strokes and finished with a total of 259 which was one stroke better than the runner-up Christiaan Bezuidenhout of South Africa.

Although Dunlap has now written himself into golf history, he will not receive the prize check of 1.5 million dollars, just over 15 million kroner.

According to the regulations, the prize money instead goes to runner-up Christiaan Bezuidenhou.

“Is so cool”

However, Dunlap will not be completely lost after the victory.

It means that he gets the right to play on the PGA Tour for two seasons.

The new winner was of course very satisfied with the weekend's competition.

- I have never felt anything like it.

"It's so cool to be out there and experience this as an amateur," Dunlap said.

The last amateur player to win on the PGA Tour was Phil Mickelson who was 20 years old when he did it in 1991. Only seven people have done it all time.

The best Swede in California was Alexander Björk in a shared eleventh place with 265 strokes, six more than the winner.
