Three years ago, the runners suffered a cold shock in the long-distance race "La Diagonela" in south-eastern Switzerland.

It was 30 degrees below zero at the time and Swedish star Britta Johansson Norgren was one of several who had to go to hospital with frostbite.

Before this year's edition of the competition, the cold was once again a talking point, with cold and hard snow and minus 20 degrees.

Therefore, the start was delayed by an hour and this time the organizer allowed the riders to use electric socks to warm their feet.

Despite the measures, Runar Skaug Mathisen's snow-covered beard in the finish line after the race testifies that it was very cold this year as well.

And Sweden's Emil Persson crossed the finish line shortly afterwards with what looked like a large piece of ice hanging from his nose.

Myhlback in the top ten

Mathisen was fourth in the men's race, which was won by Kasper Stadaas.

He rode the 55 kilometers in just under two hours and 19 minutes.

It was an all-Norwegian podium with Johan Hoel and Thomas Ödegaarden as second and third respectively.

Oskar Kardin was the best Swede in fifth place and 17-year-old Alvar Myhlback finished ninth.

In the women's race, it was double Norwegian at the top.

Magni Smedås won ahead of Emilie Fleten with Finnish Kati Roivas in third place.
