The Japanese men's wheelchair basketball team, which won the silver medal for the first time at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, lost in the semifinals of the international tournament held in Thailand to qualify for the Paris Paralympic Games, and missed out on participating in the Paris Paralympic Games.

The winner of the Asia-Oceania Wheelchair Basketball Championship, which is held in Bangkok, Thailand, will earn the right to participate in the Paris Paralympic Games, and the second place will advance to the final qualifying round held in April.

The men's semi-final was held on the 19th, and Japan, who won the silver medal at the Tokyo Games, faced Iran to advance to the final.

In the first half, Japan scored shots mainly from veteran Reo Fujimoto and Renshi Chokai, who helped win medals at the Tokyo Games, and the score was 26-25.

However, in the second half, they struggled against the attacks of the taller Iranian players and their defense collapsed, conceding a number of goals and losing 48-63, resulting in Japan missing out on participation in the Paris Paralympic Games.

Japan's men's wheelchair basketball team had participated in 12 consecutive Paralympic Games from the Toronto Games to the last Tokyo Games, but this streak ended.

Meanwhile, the Japan women's national team won the semi-final against Australia on the 19th, 46-33, and advanced to the final.
