Inter Miami announced on Friday the signing of Luis Suarez, who will be reunited with his friend Leo Messi after shining together at Barcelona.

The 36-year-old Uruguayan attacker will also be reunited in Florida with two other illustrious former teammates of the Spanish club: Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Suárez, who recently returned to the Uruguayan national team, will compete in the U.S. in 2024, the year in which the country of the stars and stripes will host the Copa America.

"Welcome Luis Suarez to the Miami dream," the club wrote on its official X account (formerly Twitter) to welcome the striker after weeks in which his incorporation had been practically taken for granted.

Suarez's contract with his new team will be for one year.

Inter Miami, which has David Beckham among its owners, accompanied the ad with a photo of four children sitting with their backs to each other with the numbers 9 (Suárez), 10 (Messi), 18 (Jordi Alba) and 5 (Sergio Busquets) and the following message: "Nothing more beautiful than playing with friends."

Suarez and Messi, not to mention Brazil's Neymar, formed a lethal trident in the Barcelona team that won the European championship in the 2014-2015 season.

"The Gunslinger" played for the Blaugrana for six seasons (2014-2020) in which he scored 197 goals and provided 100 assists as one of Messi's preferred partners.

He also arrives in an MLS in which there are numerous outstanding Uruguayan players such as Diego Rossi (of the reigning champion Columbus Crew), Facundo Torres (Orlando City), César Araujo (Orlando City), Martín Cáceres (LA Galaxy), Diego Fagúndez (LA Galaxy), Gastón Brugman (LA Galaxy), Santiago Rodríguez (New York City) or Cristian Olivera (Los Angeles FC).

Suarez played last season for Brazilian side Gremio, where he scored 29 goals in 54 games.

Messi arrived at Inter Miami this summer and, with the help of fellow newcomers Busquets and Alba, won the first title in history for the Florida team, the 'Leagues Cup'.

However, an injury caused him to miss several games in the MLS regular season and Inter Miami was left out of the MLS Cup playoffs.

Inter Miami will play the opening match of the 2024 MLS season with a home match against Real Salt Lake on February 21.
