Swede Jeffrey de Graaf, 33, beat Englishman Ritchie Edhouse in the first round of the World Darts Championship after a mighty turnaround.

The Swede was trailing 0-2 in sets and had a match darts against him. But Edhouse missed and de Graaf managed to turn it around to make it 3-2.

"It's my first win in a World Cup match. I've never made it past the first game... But I just felt that I couldn't give up," de Graaf said.

Moved for love

Jeffrey de Graaf, originally from the Netherlands, has lived in Sweden for five years with his Swedish girlfriend.

"I moved to Sweden in 2018 and then it took me five years before I got to play PDC Nordic and the Baltic Tour. And I did that this spring for the first time. I qualified through that ranking for the World Championships. Then the Swedes will have no choice anymore. Now I'm Swedish," says de Graaf.

"Not many players I can't beat"

In the next round, De Graaf will face the experienced Portuguese José de Sousa, a match that will be played on Friday.

"I'm hoping at least for the semi-finals. That is an ambitious goal. But you should aim high. If I take out my A-game, anything is possible. There aren't many players I feel I can't beat.
