In the long-distance duel with league leaders Leverkusen, FC Bayern stumbled with a blunder of their own. The record champions lost 1-5 (1-3) in the Bundesliga away game in Frankfurt on Saturday. The players and coach Thomas Tuchel can hardly explain the loss against Eintracht.

The national and international press comments:

Germany

»FAZ«: »Eintracht shows FC Bayern. (...) The German football record champions embarrassed themselves with a 1-5 defeat in Frankfurt. Eintracht, who have been in crisis lately, are playing themselves into a frenzy and are superior to FC Bayern in all respects."

»Bild«: »1:5 at the battered Eintracht! The pack of the year for the record champions. (...) The stars were too lazy! As a team, Bayern ran ten kilometres (!) less than Eintracht. That's a dramatic figure. Or did they go on strike in solidarity with the train drivers?"

»Süddeutsche Zeitung«: »5:1 in the end, again against Bayern, clap in the city forest, part two. Bayern have only lost four times in the Bundesliga this millennium with a four-goal difference, twice in Frankfurt, twice 1-5, most recently in 2019, it was Niko Kovac's last game as Bayern coach."

»Kicker«: »A desolate performance by FC Bayern Munich in Frankfurt ended in a 1-5 defeat. Eintracht took advantage of Munich's mistakes and deservedly won against the record champions, who are losing for the first time in the current league season."

England

»Guardian«: »Eintracht Frankfurt beat Bayern Munich 5-1 with a sensational first-half performance to end the unbeaten run of Bundesliga champions so far this season. In an explosive first half, Eintracht completely overran Bayern and exposed their error-prone defence by scoring three goals in the space of 24 minutes.

Italy

»La Gazzetta dello Sport«: »Absurd mistakes and slumps in performance: Bayern as fools, conceded five by Eintracht.«

France

»L'Équipe«: »Bavaria is breaking up in Frankfurt«

»Le Parisien«: »Completely overwhelmed: Bayern and Dayoz Upamecano lose 1-5 in Frankfurt (...), nightmarish game«

Austria

»Der Standard«: »Eintracht Frankfurt humiliates Bayern 5:1«

Netherlands

»Voetbal International«: "Bayern Munich lost in the Bundesliga for the first time this season. Eintracht Frankfurt robbed the reigning champions of their status as an unbeaten team with an unprecedented defeat that will reverberate with FC Hollywood for a long time to come.
