It was a messy start to the women's 10 km classic in Ruka. Vilma Ryyty from Finland and Kseniya Shalygina, Kazakhstan, had their poles broken at the starting gate. Both in the space of 30 seconds.

"The gate didn't work as it usually does. It opened too quickly and broke my rod. I just stood there and watched, there are so many people here cheering, so it was boring," Ryyty said.

Shouted to the hauliers: "Something is happening"

Soon after, Linn Svahn would go out on the track. Then the Swedish leaders had time to act.

"We had time to shout (to the Swedish skiers) that they should be careful about how they set the pole," says Lars Öberg in Viaplay.

Moa Lundgren was reached by the information.

"They told us to keep the poles wide, because something is happening at the gate. So you had to stand very wide-legged. It's stupid that the gate hits the poles, she says to SVT Sport.
