NBA stars Draymond Green and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors were forced to leave the field at 101-104 in the 0-0 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota's Jaden McDaniels also went back to the locker room shortly after the start of the game on Tuesday night. His tug on Thompson's jersey had triggered the scuffle between the two teams of the North American professional basketball league after only 103 seconds.

Green had Frenchman Rudy Gobert, who intervened, in a headlock for seconds and choked him from behind. "There's not much to say. That's just clownish behavior," Gobert said after the game in San Francisco, which was part of the new NBA tournament. Last Saturday, the 33-year-old Green had to leave the field early after pushing an opponent.

Gobert now expects the NBA to punish Green for his behavior. "I hope the league will do what needs to be done," he said. Green has been suspended several times for physical altercations. In April of this year, he kicked an opponent in the chest in a playoff game, and in the 2016 NBA Finals, he beat LeBron James.

Wembanyama in slump, Wagner brothers lose in cup

Meanwhile, the world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner lost with the Orlando Magic against the Brooklyn Nets 104-124. Franz Wagner was his team's best scorer with 21 points. The match was part of the NBA Cup competition, in which the winners of the six groups of five and two other teams advance to the quarterfinals. It was Orlando's first defeat of the tournament.

The San Antonio Spurs around top talent Victor Wembanyama continued to be out of form, conceding their sixth defeat in a row with a clear 87-123 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. "We're a long way off at the moment, but we're on the right path," Wembanyama said. The 19-year-old Frenchman, who made a splash with 38 points against the Phoenix Suns in early November, scored just eight points, his worst record since his NBA debut on Oct. 25.
