A Spanish report identified the 20 clubs that spend the most on the salaries of their football teams, and as expected, English teams dominated the list, which included an Arab team and included some surprises.

The list includes 11 teams from the Premier League, 3 teams from La Liga, 3 from Serie A, in addition to two teams from the French league.

The surprise was the presence of an Arab team, Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal, in addition to leaders Chelsea and Manchester United, in light of their poor results.

The list of the top 20 teams that spend on player salaries on an annual basis is as follows:

  • 20. Monaco – 326 million euros.
  • 19. Barcelona – €326 million.
  • 18. AC Milan – €328 million.
  • 17. Leipzig – €335 million.
  • 16. Atletico Madrid – €361 million.
  • 15. Saudi Al Hilal – €370 million.

Al Hilal included some international stars, most notably Brazilian Neymar (Al Hilal Saudi Club)

  • 14. Napoli – €372 million.
  • 13. Aston Villa – €417 million.
  • 12. Bayern Munich – €425 million.
  • 11. Juventus – €429 million.
  • 10. West Ham – €456 million.
  • 9. Newcastle United – €566 million.
  • 8. Real Madrid – €573 million.
  • 7. Tottenham – €655 million.
  • 6. Liverpool – €663 million.
  • 5. Arsenal – €685 million.
  • 4. Paris Saint-Germain – 895 million euros.
  • 3. Manchester City – €992 million.
  • 2. Manchester United – €997 million.
  • 1. Chelsea – one billion and one million euros.
