Veteran Brazilian defender Marcelo expressed his happiness at winning the Copa Libertadores for South American football clubs with his Brazilian club Fluminense, describing it as the biggest achievement of his career and ahead of the Champions League titles he won with Real Madrid.

The Brazilian club won their first title in the tournament, which draws the Champions League after beating Boca Juniors of Argentina 2-1 in extra time.

Marcelo, 35, won the Champions League 5 times during his 16 years at Real Madrid, as well as six La Liga titles, five Spanish Super Cups, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups and two Copa del Rey.

Marcelo participated in yesterday's match starting from the start before being substituted during the half-time break after returning to his childhood club last February after a stint with Olympiacos after leaving the Spanish giants.

Marcelo told ESPN: "Real Madrid will understand this. This is my most important club title, because this is the club I grew up in. I won a very important title with the club closest to my heart. The club that gave me all the tools needed to relaunch my career. This is the biggest reward. Priceless."

After winning the Copa Libertadores and the Champions League, Marcelo joined a distinguished group of 15 players who have won both trophies, led by Ronaldinho, Neymar and Julián Alvarez.
