Norlander, who was in a playoff last week, is currently second on a total of -11 after going around on 64 strokes.

"At the beginning of the lap yesterday there wasn't much energy after last week, but the game feels good and I like this track so I just have to keep going," he said in Discovery's broadcast.

The Swede finished in style with an eagle on the last hole and is one stroke behind leader Cameron Champ (USA). Three behind is Alex Norén after a round of 65.

Both Swedes are chasing their first title on the U.S. Tour.

Thompson: "It's more about sending a message"

On the other hand, it will not be a great game for American Lexi Thompson. The 28-year-old fought his way back to par after starting the round at +2. However, it was not enough to reach the qualifying mark of -3.

"I knew I needed to play at my best. This week was more about sending a message than it was about golf. Inspiring young people is what I enjoy the most," she said.

Thompson became the seventh woman in history to play on the PGA Tour. Annika Sörenstam, among others, has previously done the same.

In 1945, Babe Didrikson reached the qualifying mark, and she is so far the only woman to do so in the competition.
