The communication requires a certain amount of prior knowledge.

When FC Schalke 04 announced that two sponsorship contracts would be extended, a matter of course was mentioned in the fourth paragraph, where specifically the contract extension with Böklunder was explained.

Because the "self-service sausage market leader" is not only "the epitome of a delicious stadium sausage", it said there, but the early extension of the contract to 2024 was also "without any other conditions".

This addition, which is unusual in connection with advertising contracts, was necessary to reassure fans and members who do not like the man behind Böklunder.

Böklunder belongs to the Mühlen Group, which in turn belongs to Tönnies.

And Clemens Tönnies, until last summer head of the board of directors of FC Schalke, is extremely controversial among many supporters of the miners.

It was therefore important to note that Schalke would take the money from Tönnies, but that no further conditions were attached to it.

Tönnies even considered donating millions to Schalke

The club, which is in debt with 240 million euros, can urgently use the money that Schalke gets.

The club could have had it two weeks ago.

After Tönnies said in an interview with RTL that he would be willing to help if Schalke approached him, the club actually contacted him.

As a result, considerations were made as to what this aid could look like in concrete terms: Tönnies initially even considered a donation, then it was agreed to extend the Böklunder contract, which would have run until 2021 anyway.

At conditions that would have been extremely advantageous for Schalke: The entire sum, we are talking about ten million euros, would have been paid out when the contract was signed, i.e. immediately.

The only thing that Tönnies had asked for was a unanimous vote by the supervisory board, which had to approve the deal.

But with that he failed.

Two of the nine members of the supervisory board voted against - whereupon Tönnies withdrew his offer.

This process caused considerable resentment.

According to information from WELT, Huub Stevens, the former coach, is said to have even threatened to resign from the supervisory body.

Now there was a surprising U-turn.

An agreement was reached after all, because Tönnies no longer insisted on a unanimous vote.

So it is the former head of the supervisory board who gave in - and who, according to information from "Bild", also ensured behind the scenes that another advertising partner extended his sponsorship: The Stölting Group, a personnel service provider in the security sector, is committed to 2029 to Schalke.

Three new ones should prevent relegation

For the club, this amounts to immediate aid, because both Böklunder and Stölting are to make direct payments of three million euros each.

This means that the bottom of the table could possibly make another player commitment until the transfer window closes on January 31.

With Sead Kolasinac, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and William, who was loaned from VfL Wolfsburg on Monday, Schalke had already signed three reinforcements.

“I am particularly pleased given the current situation.

That is a strong sign for FC Schalke 04, ”said Marketing Director Alexander Jobst.
