In the evening after the premiere in Ski Classics, the skiers had a hard time relaxing.

Several of the riders had suffered severe cold injuries with everything from freezing to cold blisters.

"The worst hours of my life", Andreas Nygaard describes his pain for NRK.

Another who also had major problems was Swedish Britta Johansson Norgren.

"Started blowing up by itself"

She posted a picture on instagram during the evening where several cold blisters can be seen over her feet.

- You get a little shocked and it did not look better this morning and they continued to grow and grow so I have been down to the hospital now, says the 37-year-old to SVT Sport.

- In normal cases, if the blisters do not become so huge, you want to keep them intact because the risk of infection is great when they are punctured.

But they started blasting themselves and then they punched everyone in the hospital.

It seems to hurt terribly?

- Yes, it does, it thumps a lot.

According to Uppsalabon, it was down to minus 30 degrees according to the temperature sensors in the cars that leaked liquid during the race.

Could not shoot at start

The La Diagonela competition had a strange weekend overall.

First, the race was shortened by five kilometers due to avalanche risk and when the temperature rose, the riders wanted to shoot at the start but it was not possible - due to corona reasons according to the organizer.

- If you had shot at the start for an hour, the sun would have given more heat, but due to the corona, they were not allowed to shoot at the start, as far as I understood, says Brita Johansson Norgren

- The discussion has gained some momentum now about how it could have been done, but I hope it lands in that you give the opportunity to shoot at the start if it becomes like this again

The next race in Ski Classics is already this weekend and there the Swede still hopes that she will be able to start.

- Now I have three days with bandages on my feet before I check on those in the hospital again.

It feels boring but I hope it healed well so I can drive this weekend again.

But those in the hospital sounded a little hesitant though.
