  • Olympique de Marseille beat Olympiakos (2-1) on Tuesday night for the fifth day of the Champions League.

  • The Marseillais scored their two goals from the penalty spot and can thank the Var.

  • Qualifying for the Europa League remains very complicated because of the particular goal difference.

At the Velodrome stadium,

Olympique de Marseille finally won in the Champions League against Olympiakos (2-1) and signed their first success in the competition.

A success which does not however allow the Marseillais to be master of their destiny for a qualification in the Europa League.

OM finally at the level of the C1

Marseille has for the first time in the competition managed to raise its level of play. The Phocéens returned to their match, with several chances without being dangerous.

You shouldn't ask too much either.

They dominated their opponent, with a Dimitri Payet finally active and stirring, before being punished, against the course of the game, on a magnificent strike from Camara (33rd).

It was especially necessary to wait for the second half to really see the dangerous OM, even if they scared us in a very hot end of the match.

Thank you Var

Dominated by the score against the course of the game, OM returned to the score and took the advantage, thanks to the Var.

On the first real good combination from OM in attack, through Thauvin who came to rely on Rongier, then Germain.

Flotov was then mown at the entrance to the area: penalty for Marseille.

A penalty beautifully transformed by Dimitri Payet in the top corner (54th).

The latter put it back about fifteen minutes later, after a new very generous penalty.

On a strike from Rongier, the ball hit the hand of a Greek defender who was protecting his face.

Bad luck his foot was on the line of the surface: penalty awarded thanks to the Var.

Qualifying in C3 remains complicated

Despite this victory, nothing is done for OM for a qualification in C3.

He missed this third goal which would have allowed him to pass Olympiakos on a

particular

goal average

.

It will therefore be necessary to do better than the Greeks on the last day to pass.

Not an easy task, knowing that the Marseillais will move on the lawn of Manchester City, while his opponent of the evening will receive Porto.
