Diego Maradona, who died Wednesday at the age of 60, was endowed with "greatness but not sportsmanship", believes the former English goalkeeper Peter Shilton, victim of the famous "hand of God", a goal scored hand by the Argentine in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup.

Shilton regrets that Maradona never apologized for the goal, the first of two he scored in that game, won 2-1 in Mexico City, in an interview with the

Daily Mail.

The Argentine forward was "the greatest player I have ever faced," admitted Shilton.

“What I don't like is that he never apologized,” he said.

“At no time has he admitted to having cheated and said he would like to apologize,” he notes.

“Instead, he used his expression 'hand of God'.

It was not fair ”.

“It seems he had greatness in him, but unfortunately no sportsmanship,” he concludes.

Shilton, 71, notes that her life "has long been tied to that of Diego Maradona, and not in the way I would have liked."

“But I am saddened to learn of his death at such a young age,” he adds.

"He was without a doubt the greatest player I have ever faced and my thoughts are with his family."

Shilton says he hopes the famous goal "won't mar Maradona's legacy".
