Vince Reffet
, one of the world's leading specialists in extreme flights, died this Tuesday at the age of 36 in an accident while training in Dubai.
The Frenchman, who was part of the Jetman team together with his compatriot
Fred Fugen
and the Emirati pilot
Ahmed Alshehh
, had managed to reach 1,800 meters of altitude by taking off from the ground thanks to a carbon fiber wing and four small jet engines.
Abdullah ben Habtour
, Jetman spokesman, confirmed the death of Reffet, who was exercising in the morning at his team's base, located on the outskirts of Dubai.
Last February, Reffet emulated Iron Man, the Marvel superhero, with his takeoff from the port of Dubai.
His equipment, controlled by himself, allowed him to reach speeds of over 400 km / h.
Reffet's feats also included his jump from the Burj Khalifa, the most tower in the world, measuring 828 meters, located in the Emirati capital.
In 2017 he had managed to enter an Airbus A380 in mid-flight and a year earlier he was able to fly alongside the military aerobatic squadron Patrulla de Francia.
After approaching a plane while flying over the Swiss Alps, Reffet admitted to feeling "nauseous".
"It is a mental battle, but when you have achieved it you are already looking for the next project," he commented last October.
"You have so many dreams and life is so short," he admitted during the aforementioned interview with the AFP agency.
