A German club prevents its international players from joining their national teams

"Kicker Sports" magazine reported today that the German club Werder Bremen will not allow its international players to join their national teams during the international matches that will be held this month.

This decision may affect the participation of Marco Friedel with the Austrian national team, Milos Velikovic with the Serbia team, Milot Rachica with the Kosovo team, Yoya Osaka with the Japan team and Josh Sargent with the American team.

Only goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka will be allowed to join the Czech national team during their friendly match against Germany in Leipzig on January 11th.

Bremen will not violate the regulations because FIFA laws stipulate that clubs are not obligated to allow their players to participate with their national teams, if this requires entering into a medical isolation period of at least five days.

"We spoke with our players and the national federations," said Frank Baumann, director of football at Werder Bremen. "We know that our players would like to travel to join their national teams, but given the general situation, we cannot risk."

This decision was taken due to the fact that the health authorities in Bremen imposed a five-day isolation on the players upon their return from regions with a high rate of infection with the new Corona virus.
