The competition, which is the penultimate part of the FIA World Rally Championship, was to be run in Belgium for the first time.

But the state authorities have put a stop to it because Belgium is now suffering from increased spread of infection and increased pressure on healthcare.

- We have supported the rally all the time, but now we can let the competition take place, says the mayor of the city of Ypres Emmily Talpe.

Safety first

The organizer Club Superstage fully understands the decision.

- Right now, the population, healthcare staff, our employees and volunteers, the participants and all the rally fans' health are in the first place, says Jan Huyghe at the organizer.

- We have followed the health crisis in close consultation with authorities.

Unfortunately, the spread of infection has risen dramatically.

We have prioritized safety in our rally competition and have been at the forefront of Europe for several years, says Jan Huyghe.

The last World Cup competition will take place in Monza, Italy in early December.

If it is also set, it means that it is the final competition in the WC for this year.

The World Cup is currently led by the British Elfyn Evans.
