Russian mixed martial arts star Habib Nurmuhamedov announced a shocking retirement from this sport yesterday, Saturday, after he made a promise to his mother that his match with the American Justin Gaitji will be the last in his career, following the sudden death of his father with the new Corona virus.

The Russian, who forced Gaetji to submit to a technical knockout in the second round of the UFC Extreme Fighting Championship, was fighting for the first time since the death of his father, Abdul Manaf, last July after suffering with the emerging Corona virus.

Habib, 32, said after winning in Abu Dhabi: "I am the undisputed champion of UFC, with a score of 13 - zero, and 29 - zero in my entire career within the (competitions) or mother.

Habib, who collapsed in tears in the ring after winning the fight and retaining the world title, continued, "Today I want to say that this is my last fight. I cannot go back here without my father. When they came to me from UFC (to play Justin match) I talked with my mother for three days." .

He added, "She did not want me to fight without my father, so I told her that it was my last fight. I gave her my word."

Abdel Moneim, 57, was a prominent figure in the world of combat sports in the Russian Republic of Dagestan, who died last July.

In addition to his son Habib, he helped build dozens of fighters globally in wrestling or mixed martial arts.

After he was infected with the virus, Abdel Moneim was transferred to Moscow in mid-May in a critical condition and twice put into an artificial coma, after also suffering from heart problems.

Dagestan, the small republic in the northern Caucasus, was considered one of the regions in Russia most affected by the "Covid-19" pandemic in the period in which Abdul-Moneim passed away.

The lightweight champion added, "Thank you very much, Justin. I know you are great. I know you care about you. Be close to your family, because you don't know what will happen tomorrow. Thank you coach, thank you guys. Today is my last match at UFC."

"It was my parents' dream. Justin and Connor (Magregor) will meet in January. I defeated them, I'm not interested."

Irish Conor Magregor, who lost to Habib in 2018, was one of the first to comment on the busy career of the Russian, in which he did not lose, "I will continue. Respect and condolences for the departure of your father again. You and your family."

UFC President Dana White joined Connor, revealing that Habib broke his foot in preparation for the Saturday match, "After what this young man went through, we were lucky to see him fight tonight."

"It appears he was in the hospital. He broke his foot three weeks ago. He broke two toes and a bone in his foot. This is what his aides told me. He did not inform anyone."

"He is one of the most ruthless people, and he is the best fighter in the world, and you really should start by putting him as the best in history," he said.
