AIK is back in the damallsvenskan after five years outside of football's fine room.

With three rounds left, today the advancement was secured after 5-1 against Bollstanäs.

- Truly a well-deserved place in damallsvenskan.

What a season they've had!

I think it is the continuity of how they think that has done it.

On the one hand, they have hired Anne Mäkinen (sports director) who runs this, I know that she does not leave anything to chance, says Östberg, and develops further:

- She, together with AIK, has a clear five-year plan.

Now that they have advanced to the damallsvenskan, they have the idea that within five years they will be in the top three, and that you then want to build on the players they already have in the squad.

Hoping for a European investment

In Europe, we have seen a development in recent years, where several big clubs on the men's side have also begun to invest in women's teams.

Frida Östberg hopes that AIK can now make the same journey.

- I think it is very important that we have these big clubs, which have completely different financial muscles, that invest in damallsvenskan.

There is an opportunity to compete in Europe and Champions in a different way today, she says, and adds:

- Today we are talking about that damallsvenskan is a nursery for the young, who can then get out in Europe and the bigger clubs.

A club like this could be a club that is not only a nursery but could also keep the stars and build a strong, European club.

But if we look at how it has been in recent years, the Stockholm team on the women's side has not been able to compete at all as their men's team has done, what do you think it has been due to?

- I feel that there is a difference in how you have chosen to invest within the clubs on the respective teams.

This is where I mean that it is important to invest in breadth, in and around the law in the long term.

- This is what is interesting about AIK, where they have a very clear goal that you should be in the top three within five years.
