Arnaud Démare force 4: the French champion of the Groupama-FDJ team has won for the fourth time since the start of the Giro, Wednesday, in Rimini (east), at the finish of the 11th stage.

The top of the general classification, still led by the Portuguese Joao Almeida (Deceuninck), remained unchanged after this stage of 182 kilometers without difficulty of relief along the Adriatic.

The massive sprint, the fourth since the start of the Giro, gave the expected result.

Démare, very well led by his team, was clearly ahead, more than half a bike, from the Slovakian Peter Sagan.

Colombian Alvaro Hodeg took 3rd place ahead of Italian Simone Consonni.

But yes Arnaud Démare wins on this 11th stage of the Giro!

Démare is the first French since Bernard Hinault, who also won the general classification in 1982, to win four stages in the same Giro.

The 29-year-old Picard now has 75 wins, including 14 for the current season alone.

He brought his total at the Giro to five after his success last year.

The breakaway formed by five riders (Army, Bais, Frapporti, Mazzucco, Romano) was launched from the first kilometers.

His last survivor, the Belgian Sander Armée, was joined 6 kilometers from the finish.

Thursday, the 12th stage takes again the rough roads, with five climbs listed in the hinterland of Romagna, of the cyclo-sportive des “Nove Colli”.

The start and finish are scheduled in Cesenatico, the city of the “Pirate” Marco Pantani, the winner of the Giro and the 1998 Tour who died in 2004.
