"Penalty Legend" leaves hospital after being infected with Corona

The son of the attacking midfielder in the former Czechoslovak national football team, Antonin Panenka, whose name is the famous method of penalty kicks, announced that his father was discharged from the hospital where he was being treated after being infected with the "Covid 19" virus.

"I took my father out of the hospital at 11:00 in the morning, and brought him home," said Thomas Panenka, the official website of the Bohemians Club, whose father defended his colors and is currently honorary president.

Paninka, 71, was admitted into critical care last week after testing positive for the new Corona virus.

"He has tested negative now. He still has pneumonia, but doctors say he no longer needs to stay in hospital," the son added.

Panenka was born in Prague in 1948 and won the European Cup with Czechoslovakia in 1976 when he scored the decisive penalty shoot-out at the expense of Germany (5-3 after the end of the original and extra 2-2 times) in a deceptive way that became known by his name.

Instead of shooting strongly into the net, Panenka deceived the goalkeeper by dropping the ball in the middle of the goal, and this technical glimpse became known by his name and was implemented by many players after him, most notably the French Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 World Cup final against Italy, the Swedish Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Italian Andrea Pirlo and others.

After it succeeded in curbing the outbreak of the new Corona virus in the country after the start of the pandemic, the Czech Republic is currently witnessing a sharp increase in infections and is classified among the most affected countries in the European Union.

The European Union member state, which has a population of 10.7 million, recorded more than 8,000 new cases on Tuesday.

Since the outbreak began in March, it has recorded nearly 130,000 confirmed infections and 1,106 deaths.
