Venus Williams, 40 years old and a seven-time Grand Slam winner, was eliminated in the first round on Sunday of the Roland Garros tournament.

The American Venus Williams, who holds the record for participation in Grand Slam tournaments at 40, lost at Roland Garros, defeated by Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in straight sets (6-4, 6- 4) Sunday. 

Participation in all editions, except one, since 1997

The eldest of the Williams sisters, a finalist in 2002 against her sister Serena, was eliminated in the first round for the third year in a row Porte d'Auteuil. Apart from 2011, she has participated in all editions of the Paris tournament since 1997. Venus Williams has won 7 Grand Slam tournaments (5 times Wimbledon, 2 times the US Open) but has struggled since 2017 to climb into the second week.
