Good afternoon and welcome to our live blog about the World Cycling Championships.

My name is Willem Haak and I will keep you informed of the developments in the women's time trial here.

  • Time trial women

  • 33.4 km

  • Van Dijk

  • Van der Breggen

World Cycling Championships · a few seconds ago

Anna van der Breggen is now the fastest woman on the course.

Will she soon take the world title?

It's all about tense, because Marlen Reusser is also riding a good time trial.

Meanwhile, we wonder how Chloe Dygert is doing.

World Cycling Championships 2 minutes ago

Dygert was well on his way to title prolongation and drove much faster than anything and everyone.

Because of her unfortunate fall everything is open again.

What a drama for the American.

Oops!

Chloe Dygert falls hard.

The reigning world champion was well on his way to title prolongation, but goes too fast through a corner and slides over the crash barriers.

It doesn't look good.

World Cycling Championships 6 minutes ago

Ellen van Dijk comes to the finish, where she is currently setting the fastest time.

The question is whether her time is enough for a medal, because at the first measuring point there were now five women faster.

Today is race on the Imola circuit!

World Cycling Championships 12 minutes ago

Today it is boss over boss, because at the first measuring point reigning world champion Chloe Dygert sets a time of 19.35.

That is 0.36 faster than Van der Breggen and no less than 1.01 faster than Van Dijk.

World Cycling Championships 13 minutes ago

Oops!

Anna van der Breggen does set the second in the mean time with the first down, but she is already nine seconds slower than Marlen Reusser, who was the fastest there.

World Cycling Championships 15 minutes ago

And now Marlen Reusser is also passing the first measuring point.

The Swiss set a super time, because she is no less than 0.35 faster than Ellen van Dijk.

World Cycling Championships 18 minutes ago

Grace Brown sets the fastest time at the finish on the Imola circuit.

The Australian is 0.21 faster than Emma Norsgaard.

The time from now on will serve as a reference point for the rest.

World Cycling Championships · 24 minutes ago

For the time being, Ellen van Dijk is working on a disappointing time trial.

Dutch hope seems to be pinned on Anna van der Breggen.

World Cycling Championships · 26 minutes ago

Ellen van Dijk clocks the second interval at the first measuring point.

She is 0.088 slower than the Australian Grace Brown, who came through there as the fastest.

It's somewhat disappointing.

The trip in Italy produces beautiful images.

All women have now started, because reigning world champion Chloe Dygert (US) is now also on the course.

The real battle is now about to begin!

World Cycling Championships 33 minutes ago

And Anna van der Breggen is also starting!

The World Championship time trial is one of her goals this season.

Will she live up to expectations?

The Dutch is at least in shape.

Last month she won the Giro Rosa.

At the first measuring point, the American Lauren Stephens is now fastest.

She set a tight time of 21.06 there.

It's important to mention that Rozlapa's meantime was off.

Her passage at the first measuring point turned out to be incorrect.

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

Ellen van Dijk has now started.

Is the Dutch on the hunt for a medal?

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

Ellen van Dijk will start in three minutes!

She already became world time trial champion in 2013 and is also one of the favorites for the overall victory today.

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

Emma Norsgaard sets the tone.

The Danish is no less than one minute faster than the number two on the finish line at the Imola circuit.

Her time?

41.42.

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

Valeriya Kononenko is the first to cross the finish line.

She clocked a time of 43.35.

She doesn't stay first for long, because Mikayla Harvey is 0.42 faster.

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

And yet another fastest time interval.

The Latvian Dana Rozlapa - already 41 years old - is the fastest to pass the first measuring point.

She is no less than 0.33 faster than Emma Norsgaard.

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

For the time being, no one is faster than the Danish Emma Norsgaard.

The real favorites don't start until later.

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

A new fastest split time: Emma Norsgaard (Denmark) will pass the first measuring point after 21.12.

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

For now Mikayla Harvey from New Zealand is fastest at the first measuring point: 21.54.

Only Valeriya Kononenko (Ukraine) comes close.

She's slower by sixteen seconds.

The rest give in minutes after just over 14 kilometers.

World Cycling Championships one hour ago

In exactly forty minutes, the first Dutch will start with Ellen van Dijk.

She was initially not called up, but is still there today after the injury of Annemiek van Vleuten.

Have to say it hurts a lot to not be able to ride the Worlds TT.

Guess that's the downside of being part of such a strong cycling country 🚴‍♀️🇳🇱 And a result of not having fair @UCI_cycling selection criteria in my opinion.

Gonna make the best of the road race though!

Eleven women have now started.

Of these, Elizabeth Banks is the most prominent name.

The English won a stage in the Giro Rosa last month, where Anna van der Breggen took the pink jersey.

World Cycling Championships 2 hours ago

Chloé Dygert is the title defender today and will start last.

The organization briefly went through the course with her yesterday.

The real contenders for the overall victory will only start in just under an hour.

Plenty of time to keep following this live blog, so.

Anna van der Breggen -

At the 2019 World Cup, Van der Breggen had to settle for second place.

This year, the thirty-year-old Dutch is aiming for a gold medal.

If she continues the shape of the Giro Rosa she won, then that is certainly possible.

World Cycling Championships 3 hours ago

Ellen van Dijk -

She was disappointed that she was not selected for the time trial, but due to the absence of the injured Annemiek van Vleuten, 33-year-old Van Dijk can still make her appearance.

The 2013 world champion is immediately one of the favorites for the gold in Imola.

World Cycling Championships 3 hours ago

Chloé Dygert -

It was a big surprise when the 23-year-old American outsmarted the competition last year to become world time

trial

champion.

This year Dygert is one of the absolute favorites for the overall victory.

The course seems to suit her well.

Van Vleuten positive about World Cup participation: "Yesterday was very hopeful"

It increasingly seems that Annemiek van Vleuten will defend her world title on the road on Saturday.

The Dutch saw her participation in the World Cycling Championships endangered after she broke her wrist in a crash in the Giro Rosa last week.

After a successful operation, however, she is confident that she can still appear at the start.

"I'm going to announce it on Friday, but yesterday was very hopeful", she refers

to a training session

with

NOS

.

"When I see how quickly I recover, I expect to be much stronger on Saturday."
