The
UEFA Executive Committee
has approved this Thursday the possibility of making
five changes
during the entire 2020-21 season in the
Champions League and the Europa League
- starting from the group stage - and the
Nations League
, a measure designed to allow players more rest on a schedule compressed by the pandemic.
In addition to the three competitions mentioned, the rule of five changes and 23 summonable players also applies to the 'playoffs' of the European Qualifiers, qualification for the European Championship for women and the Women's Champions League for the remainder of the season , in order to "
alleviate the burden on the players
caused by the compression of the 2020/21 calendar of international matches due to the Covid-19 pandemic," UEFA recalled.
On the other hand, the body, after an agreement with the European clubs and leagues, decided to expand the 'windows' of March and September 2021 for national teams so that three matches can be held instead of two.
This solution has already been implemented, with the approval of FIFA, for the international windows of October and November 2020.
In addition, it was established that the
final phase of the League of Nations
will be played on October 6 and 7, 2021 in its two semifinals, while the final and the match for third place will take place on October 10, 2021. Three Group 1 federations have shown their interest in hosting the finals: Italy, the Netherlands and Poland.
