20 thousand fans in the stands and Davis on the bench

The match for the UEFA Super Cup took place in 2020 unusually late - at the end of September.

The reason for this was the coronavirus pandemic, due to which it was possible to finish the European cups only in August.

Moreover, the meeting in Budapest was in danger of being disrupted due to the increased incidence of COVID-19.

For this reason, entry into the country was even restricted from the beginning of the month.

However, UEFA not only managed to organize the match, but also to play it with the audience.

The leadership of European football initially announced a desire to gather about 20 thousand spectators in the stands of the Puskas Arena with a total capacity of 67 thousand. At the same time, each club received 3 thousand tickets for its fans.

In Hungary, this initiative was not approved by everyone.

Thus, local MP Ildiko Borbeli accused UEFA of trying to "conduct a human experiment."

As for the game itself, reigning Champions League winner Bayern Munich was considered the clear favorite against reigning Europa League winner Sevilla.

On the eve of the duel in Budapest, the Munich team once again demonstrated their power, defeating Schalke 04 in the opening round of the Bundesliga with a score of 8: 0.

But the meeting between Sevilla and Atlético was postponed to January.

It is curious that both teams had previously not played very well for the UEFA Super Cup and won this trophy only once.

At the same time, the Munich team was defeated three times, and the Spanish team - four times.

Both teams approached the full-time match with practically no losses.

“Bayern” had questionable participation in the game of David Alaba, but in the end he entered the field from the first minutes.

But the injured Kingsley Coman was not included in the application.

Hans-Dieter Flick surprised the fans with the decision to leave Alfonso Davis on the bench.

Instead, Lucas Hernandez appeared on the left edge of the defense.

Ivan Rakitic, who returned from Barcelona, entered the field at Sevilla.

The rest of the roster almost completely repeated the roster for the final match of the LE against Inter.

Perhaps, Sergio Regilon, who left for Real, was replaced by Jules Kunde.

Penalty in the tenth minute and a powerful shot from Goretzka

It seemed that "Bavaria" from the first minutes will go forward and literally sweep the opponent off the field, as it happened in the last Champions League matches.

However, in fact, Sevilla started the game more actively and managed to seize a little initiative.

And already in the tenth minute, the Spanish team earned a penalty.

Ivan Rakitic in someone else's penalty area was preparing to strike literally from the goalkeeper's line after a partner's discount, but David Alaba knocked him down.

The referee from England Anthony Taylor immediately pointed to the "dot", although the players of "Bavaria" tried to challenge his decision.

In their opinion, the Austrian played with the corps within the rules.

The penalty kick was confidently realized by Lucas Ocampos.

The Argentine shot into the left corner, and Manuel Neuer jumped into the opposite one.

Having conceded, the Munich team expectedly took the ball under their control, but Sevilla defended calmly and without panic.

On the flanks, Julen Lopetegui's wards did not allow Leroy Zane to run away from Serge Gnabry, and the tall powerful Diego Carlos and Sergio Escudero controlled Robert Lewandowski.

Nevertheless, Bayern were creating chances.

For example, in the middle of the first half, Thomas Muller miraculously missed the far corner from several meters after Lewandowski's pass from the front.

And ten minutes later the Pole did not realize a one-on-one exit with Bono.

With the defender hanging on his back, the forward struck the Moroccan in the arms.

Finally, Benjamin Pavar, after Muller's pass from outside the penalty area, missed a little into the far corner.

In the end, Bayern's pressure turned into a beautiful goal.

After Müller's subtle transfer to the penalty area by air, Lewandowski perfectly oriented himself in space and made a discount on Leon Goretzka.

In turn, the midfielder in touch with no chance for Bono struck into the near corner.

True, Sevilla did not have time to spread the ball from the center of the field, as they distinguished themselves again.

Luc de Jong fled to a rendezvous with Neuer and outplayed him.

But after a couple of moments, the line judge recorded an obvious offside position.

Two canceled goals and a successful substitution by Flick

And right after the break, Taylor did not count the goal of Bayern.

And the ball turned out to be very beautiful.

After a subtle transfer of the partner, Lewandowski made a discount on Muller, but he was not greedy and returned the projectile to the Pole, who only had to punch into the far corner.

However, the referee, after watching the replay, canceled the goal.

The recording clearly showed that Lewandowski was in a slight offside position at the time of the transfer to him.

And this was not the last canceled goal of Bayern in this half.

Ten minutes later, the newcomer of Munich Zane after another save Bono finished off the ball into the goal, but Taylor blew the whistle.

Lewandowski was again in the spotlight.

According to the referee, he held the defender's shirt with his hand when he made a discount on a partner.

The winner of the Champions League did not manage to score a clean ball before the end of regular time, although he owned the ball 60% of the playing time and struck eight shots, two of which were on target.

Overall, however, Sevilla acted reliably and selflessly in defense.

The team's footballers worked on each episode to the end and left a minimum of space between the lines.

Bayern haven’t encountered such an organized game in defense for a long time.

Moreover, in the 87th minute Lopetegi's charges had a great opportunity to snatch victory.

They fled into a counterattack after playing a corner at their own goal.

The fresh Youssef En-Nesiri ended up one-on-one with Neuer, but failed to outplay him.

Thus, the match went into extra time.

And at the very beginning, Sevilla missed another great moment.

En-Nesiri again broke into a strike position and struck into the near corner from the bottom in the opposite direction to Neuer.

But the shell hit Manuel's leg, and flew off the barbell from it.

The punishment for such extravagance simply could not fail to take place.

This time the fate of the confrontation was decided by the successful replacement of Flick.

In the middle of the first extra half, he released Xavi Martinez and Davis to replace them.

And after just a few minutes the Spaniard scored the winning goal.

And the goal came from a corner, which should not have been.

In one of the game moments, the ball flew straight into Bono's hands, but Diego Carlos did not hear his partner and knocked out the shell for the front.

As a result, after the corner was served, the same Brazilian won the fight on the second floor and took the ball out of the penalty area.

Immediately followed by a long-range strike, which Bono reflected not too confidently - directly to Martinez.

The Spaniard had to punch his head exactly into the far corner.

Surprisingly, in 2013, when Bayern won the first UEFA Super Cup, Javi Martinez also scored in extra time.

And he turned the match into a penalty shootout in the 121st minute.

Having conceded, the Sevilla players did not let go of their hands, but they did not have enough strength for the second extra half.

Although the Spanish team had at least one moment.

Sergio Escudero missed the target after serving from the right flank.

Overall, however, the success of Bayern was the logical outcome of the meeting.

To their victories in the German Cup, Bundesliga and Champions League, Munich added the UEFA Super Cup Victoria.
