She crashed hard and flew over a low metal barrier when the World Cup pace at Imolabanan in Italy ended for the reigning champion.

- We do not know anything about the diagnosis yet.

What I do know is that she was flown to a hospital in Bologna and taken to the emergency room for examination by a doctor.

The US Cycling Federation has two leaders with her at the hospital, says Dygert's coach, the three-time Olympic champion Kristin Armstrong, according to Cycling News.

Dygert hit his leg and was scratched in connection with the accident.

- We are all worried about the deep wound over the leg where she hit the railing.

It's awful and scary and it's going to be a tough rehab period for Chloe, Armstrong says.

Dad contacted in the US

Back home in the United States, the family was notified of the serious accident.

- But I always try to see things from the good side and that is that Chloe is in good hands, several people take care of her and she has a good team around her.

I've talked to her dad and hopefully he can fly over even if it's hard during covid times.

Even though it is a serious accident where you do not have the whole picture ready for yourself yet, Armstrong hopes that Dygert managed well under the circumstances.

- It is definitely a serious accident, but when she looks back on it, she will hopefully say that she was lucky in the misfortune.

It could have been even worse, Armstrong thinks.
