  • Ada Hegerberg was absent from the Final 8 of the Champions League in Spain, which allowed OL to become European champions for the fifth time on Sunday.

  • At 25, and one year from the end of her contract at Lyon, the Norwegian striker had just returned from a serious injury to her right knee, which resulted in an operation last February.

  • But to everyone's surprise, this time she was operated on Friday for a stress fracture of the left tibia, which had bothered her for over a year.

Her absence at the stadium, for the semi-final and the final of the Women's Champions League in Spain, did not bode well.

It is indeed reluctantly that Ada Hegerberg was not in Bilbao and then in San Sebastián last week to support her teammates during this competition won by OL.

The Lyon club decided on Tuesday evening to communicate on the medical situation of its star striker, the first Golden Ball in history in December 2018.

For OL, his right knee is "now healed" after his operation on February 4, following a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament.

This is why the 25-year-old Norwegian was initially on the trip to the Basque Country for Final 8, before ultimately not being selected from the squad to face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals on August 22.

No return date mentioned

OL's medical statement, on the other hand, mentions another injury to his player, “embarrassed since April 2019 by persistent pain in the left tibia”.

It is a "fatigue fracture" with pain "persisting over training".

Ada Hegerberg was therefore operated on Friday for this stress fracture of the left tibia.

Every time I step on the pitch I'm giving 100%, and sometimes the body says stop.

While my knee has fully recovered and is ready to go, I took advantage of this particular period to take care of a year old injury.

This is just a slight delay.

See you guys very soon!

"The operation went perfectly to ensure perfect consolidation," said the club, which is careful not to mention a return date for the big absent from the seventh European crown in Lyon.

“I took advantage of this particular period to treat a one-year injury,” said the OL striker on Twitter Tuesday evening.

It is doubtful that the person (under contract until 2021 in Lyon), appreciated her medical management, after having alerted her staff to this discomfort in the left knee for almost 18 months.
