She had never beaten a Top 10 player in a Grand Slam before.

The French Caroline Garcia created a huge surprise at the US Open on Wednesday by releasing the No. 1 seed Karolina Pliskova in the second round in two small sets 6-1, 7-6 (7/2).

WHAT A WIN!

The Czech, 3rd in the world, was led 4-2 with a break behind in the second set before returning.

But she failed to turn the tide and recorded her worst result at Flushing Meadows since losing in the first round in 2015. The former world No. 1 reached the final of the US Open in 2016 , but still has not won, at 28, a Grand Slam tournament.

For his part, Garcia, 26, will face the American Jennifer Brady (41st) in the third round.

The Frenchwoman, 50th in the world, has never reached the round of 16 at the US Open and her best Grand Slam result dates back to her quarter-final at Roland Garros in 2017.
