"Tumor in the knee" Asensio is away from the Spanish national team

The Spanish national football team announced that its player Marco Asensio left the team due to a tumor in his knee, and consequently his absence from the upcoming "La Roja" matches against Germany and Ukraine in the European Nations Football League competitions.

"The midfielder underwent medical examinations that prevented him from training with his teammates. The MRI scan revealed that a lump in the knee requires a few days of rest. Because of this pain, the player will leave the team in the next few hours," a statement issued by the national team said.

Asensio missed most of the 2019-2020 season after suffering a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his left knee during a friendly match against Arsenal in Miami in July of last year.

He underwent surgery in August 2019 and then began the rehabilitation process for an eight-month period, and he benefited from the stoppage of competitions for nearly three months due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus, which enabled him to play LaLiga matches with the Royal Club after the appeal.

According to Spanish newspapers, Asensio (24 years), who played 24 matches with the first team, will return to Real Madrid's medical team, which will assess his condition in preparation for the new season.

Spain will meet Germany in Stuttgart today, Thursday, at the opening of the second edition of the European Nations League, with Ukraine hosting next Sunday at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium in Real Madrid's training headquarters in Valdebebas on the outskirts of the Spanish capital, where he played his matches in the local league after resuming last June. Behind closed doors to the masses before winning the title.
