The late Sunday match had its special explanation, according to the newspaper Corren. When Växjöspelare was to spend Saturday going to a wedding, the home team wanted the match to take place already on Friday - something Linköping did not accept.

- Considering the intensive game schedule that has been, we declined it. We will see in what condition their players are in, it feels a bit unprofessional, Linköping's coach Olof Unogård told Corren before the match.

As the clubs did not agree, the association set Sunday 19.00 as the time for kick-off. Once the match was underway, the home team Växjö showed that they were ready for a battle for points.

Quick netting

The players looked alert and worried on several occasions about the defense. But in the middle of a good Växjö period, Linköping instead connected the grip on the event. Goal scorer Lina Hurtig stayed ahead in a solid situation and nodded in Östgötland's lead goal after half an hour of play.

The first half of the season has pointed to another season in the "middle kingdom" for Linköping, Swedish Championship gold medalists 2016 and 2017. When the autumn round of this year's damallsvenska kicked off, three points against the last would be in favor if Linköping wanted to keep the dream of a climb to the top of the table Alive.

New table three

Växjö offered to fight through the match, but Linköping's performance was strong enough to give the team a return trip with all three points on the bus.

The victory meant that the Östgötland team advanced to third place in the table, seven points behind the top duo Rosengård and Kopparberg / Gothenburg.

Växjö is currently slightly stern sailed in the last position of the table. The team now has ten matches to record enough points for a renewed Allsvenskan contract.
