Last week, the WTA tour made a comeback, after being down since March, due to the corona pandemic.

Today, two of the biggest stars made a comeback: World runner-up Simona Halep and world ninth Serena Williams.

Swinging for Halep

Both won, but both had to work hard.

For Halep, in the Prague Open, it was a 2-1 victory, in a really swinging match that lasted two and a half hours. After winning the first set 6-1, there was a loss with the same numbers in the second set. The third was decided in a tiebreak, where Halep won 7-3.

- I'm glad I managed to win after a break of six months. I felt stiff in the back after the first set even though it was short and I played well. After the second set, I felt tired. But I knew it was the same for her, so I just had to stick to my match plan and fight - and the fight helped me win the match, Halep said at a post-match press conference, where she missed a full six match points.

Easy third set for Williams

Serena Williams, who plays a tournament in Lexington, USA, also got to play a three-seater.

Countryman Bernarda Pera broke Williams' serve late in the first set and took it home with 6-4. In the second set, Williams won 6-4, before she easily won the arbitration set 6-1.
