  • The soap opera around the attempted buyout of OM by Mohamed Ayachi Ajroudi must end this week.
  • Marseille sports economist Lionel Maltese analyzes this test which will undoubtedly prove to be unsuccessful.
  • For him, Mohamed Ayachi Ajroudi and Mourad Boudjellal “tried everything for everything. "

Has mass been said? In recent days, Mohamed Ayachi Ajroudi's entourage said they were rather “pessimistic. The attempt to buy OM is likely to fail. The Franco-Tunisian businessman, who is accompanied by Mourad Boudjellal in this adventure, issued an ultimatum last week: Frank McCourt has until Wednesday evening to respond to the "last firm offer" presented by the advisers of Mohamed Ayachi Ajroudi.

The answer, this Tuesday, of the McCourt clan:
“We repeated it hundreds of times. There is nothing, there is no discussion. # OM is not for sale. »#TeamOM #venteOM # ratherpasventeOMenloccurence https://t.co/XvinwUu9KQ

For sports economist Lionel Maltese, this takeover project has little chance of success ... But with OM, "anything is possible", smiles the lecturer at Aix-Marseille University and associate professor at Kedge .

How do you see the controversy surrounding the acquisition of OM?

I found this surprising. Mourad Boudjellal has talked a lot in the press about what should have been a private negotiation. It's awkward of her. He put himself in danger in relation to the supporters.

There is no clear and precise project, it lacks meaning. Moreover, if that had been the case, the lawyers would have spoken directly to each other. I am not sure that such a sulphurous takeover attempt is good for OM's reputation. Marseille needs concrete projects and results!

Was their attempt desperate?

They tried everything for everything. There is a precedent in the history of OM: Jack Kachkar who even made a lap of honor at the Stade Vélodrome (in 2007). I am quite surprised that Mourad Boudjellal, who was an excellent leader at RC Toulon and an excellent entrepreneur in comics, is in such a project.

When we see that they gave names like Bernard Tapie, José Anigo, Zinédine Zidane… It was a bit of a fake. The irrationality around OM has turned to the disadvantage of Mourad Boudjellal and Mohamed Ayachi Ajroudi.

Traditionally, club redemptions are done with discretion ...

At the time of the takeover of PSG, Jean-Claude Blanc did not speak. Frank McCourt and Jacques-Henri Eyraud were very discreet when OM took over. In Nice, everything happened behind the scenes too. Same thing when Chinese shareholders entered the capital of OL. The takeover of Bordeaux by King Street and GACP was a bit more eventful, but this is the only example I see.

OM shouted at the attempt to destabilize. Did the potential buyers want to lower the value of the club by expressing themselves so much in the media?

It's possible. We know from financial fair play that there is an imbalance between OM's income and expenses. Clearly, the payroll is a weakness for the club arriving in the Champions League. They took this angle of attack: to say that we arrive with money to get the club afloat, it is credible. But talking about Zidane or Anigo is not consistent with the market and the period.

You never believed in this redemption attempt?

When people tell me about Zidane, I find it hard to believe it (smile). But anything is possible with OM. When Robert-Louis Dreyfus took over in 1996, Nike-backed IMG McCormack group was frontrunner. And Jean-Claude Gaudin finally chose Robert Louis-Dreyfus who had just bought Adidas. This is proof that anything is possible.

OM: Director11 software, “Data Lab”… What tools will sports director Pablo Longoria have?

Pablo Longoria and Hugues Ouvrard "must prove themselves"

Lionel Maltese is delighted with the appointment of young Pablo Longoria (33) at the head of the sports sector: “I always find it interesting to say that there is no age to be competent. “On the other hand, he is more reserved on the appointment of Hugues Ouvrard, formerly of Xbox, EA Sports and Canal +. The 40-year-old was named “head of business” by Jacques-Henri Eyraud. "I am not sure of this theory that we have more perspective when we do not come from the world of football, analyzes Lionel Maltese. Football is a networked world. "
