  Wu Jingui was born in Shanghai on January 10, 1961. He studied in Beijing Institute of Physical Education for 4 years, studied in Germany for 6 years, and worked as an assistant for Yangshuai for 6 years. He can use English and German fluently. As the coach, he led Shanghai Shenhua to win the championship in the last generation A. During his tenure, he served as the head coach of Shanghai Shenhua and Hangzhou Greentown.

  In September 2012, he served as the technical director of Shandong Luneng and the acting head coach of the team. In 2013, he ceased to be the acting head coach and continued to serve as the technical director of the team. In February 2014, he resigned from the position of technical director of Luneng Club. On September 11, 2017, the Shanghai Greenland Shenhua Club officially announced that coach Poyet had resigned, and Shenhua agreed to Poyet's application for resignation.

  In 2002, he served as the head coach of the Shanghai Shenhua team and led the team to win the 2003 A League Championship and the second place in the Super League in 2007 and 2008. In 2004, he joined the Chinese national team as an assistant coach and won the 2004 Asian Cup runner-up with the team.

  In 2009, he joined Zhejiang Greentown as the head coach. In 2010, he led his team to historic 4th in the Chinese Super League and entered the AFC Champions League. During the period, he also led the Zhejiang U20 National Games team into the top 8 National Games. In 2012, he served as the acting head coach of Shandong Luneng team and led the team to the top 4 of the FA Cup. In 2017, he served as the acting head coach of the Shanghai Shenhua team and led the team to win the 2017 FA Cup championship.
