The Ukrainian Football Association said that the country's first-team doctor, Anton Hodaev, died of infection with the emerging corona virus at the age of 48.

"On behalf of the President of the Ukrainian Football Association, Andrei Pavelka, on behalf of the national team coach Andrei Shevchenko, and on behalf of every football family in Ukraine, we extend our deepest condolences to his family," the federation said in a statement.

"All members of the national team feel very sad," the statement added.

Hudayev was also a doctor of the Ukrainian club Metalist Kharkiv.

The rapidly spreading Coruna virus has killed more than 1,600 people in Ukraine, along with about 65,000 cases of infection.
