Union Berlin is tired. Next season they want to play with audiences in their home town. But filling an arena with 22,012 spectators is not easy in the middle of the current pandemic.

However, that does not prevent Union from starting to file plans to play in front of filled stands. On the club's website they write that the goal is to be able to test all staff and the 22,000 with covid-19 tickets. The goal then is that anyone who has a negative test for the corona virus, who is no more than 24 hours old when the match is over, and a match ticket should be able to go on the match.

- Our arena experience does not work with social distancing. And if we can't sing and scream, then it's not Union. At the same time, the safety of our visitors and staff is most important to us. We want to do our best to ensure that nobody gets infected in our sold-out arena, ”says club president Dirk Zingler to the club's website.

Great challenge for the club

At the same time, the club understands that it will be a real challenge to succeed.

- Implementing such a plan is a huge organizational and financial challenge, which we are happy to tackle with all our strength. This means that as a football club, we will bear the costs of implementing the necessary measures, Zingler says.

Exactly how things are going, the club does not go in. But says there are already partners with whom they are in dialogue with to be able to start the next season with the audience.
