Alberto Contador, the only Spanish cyclist to win the Tour, Giro and Vuelta, has entered his name in the Everesting challenge after completing the 8,848 meters of accumulated positive elevation gain , the same as the altitude of the ceiling of our planet, on a morning of work in the Segovian ascent to Navapelegrín.

A few days ago, after several climbs to La Morcuera , Alberto Contador joked with the possibility of facing the challenge of Everesting on the ramps of the iconic mountain pass of the Madrid Central System.

Just a few days later, encouraged by the fans who invited him to do so, the former rider surpassed the challenge in the framework of a demanding day of material testing for his bicycle brand, Abikes .

That of Navapelegrín is a neighboring ascent of the Puerto de Navacerrada that begins in the Prairie of Navalhorno and reaches 1,700 meters of altitude after 6.5 kilometers. It is a narrow climb, barely three meters wide, it presents its platform, but with a good asphalt.

Alberto Contador's Everesting Challenge focused on the hardest kilometer of this beautiful climb, a thousand meters with an average slope of around 12% and maximums of around 20%. To complete it, the man from Madrid climbed this kilometer 78 times .

"These are days of a lot of work, preparing the launch of the bicycle, which is very close. We wanted to test some materials and also check their behavior in very specific environments, hence the exhaustion. The other day we were joking with the achievement of the challenge and outrageousness comments encouraged us to do so. "

"By downloading and comparing the data, the Everesting challenge website confirms that the challenge has been overcome," explains Alberto Contador himself.

The challenge of Everesting is as simple as it is demanding: it consists of repeating a climb as many times as necessary to complete a positive drop of 8,848 meters, the same altitude as Mount Everest.
