Merseyside police in England opened an investigation, after setting fire to the Dixie Dean statue, the historic top scorer for Everton FC outside Goodison Park Stadium. "The club is cooperating with the police in the investigation of the undamaged memorial," Everton said in a statement, according to the British newspaper "The Sun".

He continued: "We encourage everyone who has information about this frustrating incident to contact the Merseyside Police, and after inspection and cleaning the memorial and the site, we can confirm that there will be no permanent damage to our great scorer statue, or the flowers under the statue."

Dean, who scored 383 goals with Everton, including 60 in the league during one season, led the club to winning the League twice and the FA Cup once, and the statue has been outside (Goodison Park) stadium since 2001.
